Breast Cancer
Thursday, February 26th, 2009There are different types of breast cancer. Ductal carcinoma beginning in milk vessels is the most common type in patients. Lobular carcinoma is another type of this cancer. BRC1 and BRC2 genes are thought to be the reason of breast cancer which is pertaining to the family. Obesity, early menarche, and belated pregnancy are increasing the risks. It can be seen in men too but risks are in low possibilities.
According to the statistics every one of nine women has the possibility of having the cancer. Risks begin to emerge after 30 years. Approximate age of women diagnosed with this cancer is 60. It is seen in developed countries except Japan is more than undeveloped countries.
Breast Cancer Risk Factors :
1- To have a history with cancer in the family
2- Ovarian cancer, bowel cancer, uterus cancer.
3- Early menarche (Before 12)
4- Late menopause. (After 55)
5- Pregnancy after 30 or not being pregnant
6- Being exposed to radiation.
Breast Cancer Symptoms :
- If there is a chunk near the breast when making hand control.
- Chunk in armpit.
- Abnormal tit flow. Bloody or purulent flow.
- Augmentation in only one teat.
- Violent ache in bones.
- Weight loss
Examination
Mammography and tomography is very useful defining the cyst. Tit aspiration material or cyst biopsy are used to differentiate the chunk.
Stages of Breast Cancer
- If tumour is less than 2 cm , no nodule, no metastasis
- If tumour is less than 5 cm, nodule is not fixed, no distal metastasis
- If tumour is bigger than 5 cm, it is adhered to skin or breast, There are supraclavicular nodules, no distal metastasis.
- Distal metastasis occurs.
Treatments
- Local treatment; mastectomy.
- Systematic Treatment; chemotherapy and hormonotherapy and also surgical intervention and radiotherapy is applied for breast cancer cases.
